GOLD Coast: Australian duo Trae Williams and Rohan Browning have put in massive shifts but fell short of an appearance in the 100m final, which will be headlined by Jamaican superstar Yohan Blake, pictured.
The 2011 world champion clocked 10.06 seconds in the first of three semis yesterday.
Blake, 28, is equal second on the 100m all-time list with a personal best of 9.69 set in 2012 and is a red-hot chance to again break the 10-second barrier in today’s final.
Browning was desperately unlucky to miss a berth in the final, finishing third in his semi behind Henricho Bruintjies.
Both men were timed at 10.26, with the times having to be extended to thousandths of a second before the South African was declared to have crossed the line ahead of Browning.
Williams was fourth behind Blake in the first of three semis in a time of 10.28, well shy of the 10.10 he clocked in the national trials at Carrara Stadium back in February.
Williams was disappointed in his finish to the race after starting well but failing to keep pace in the final 40m.
The men’s and women’s 100m finals are both on today. – 7sport
