A 13-MEMBER delegation from the Australian Defence Force visited the First Royal Pacific Islands Regiment at Taurama barracks in Port Moresby yesterday.
The contingent is led by Group Capt David Green, head of the Centre of Defence and Strategic Studies in Canberra, Australia.
The week-long visit is part of a course programme the ADF holds every year.
Green said the aim of the programme “will be to learn, experience and understand the political, military, economical, and cultural aspects of Papua New Guinea”.
He emphasised the officially sanctioned visit “is not to make any assessment or judgement against PNG”.
“Our trip will include visiting military bases and facilities to experience and understand the status of challenges and programmes against the government’s 2030 plan for security in PNG,” he said, adding this was an opportunity for them to engage with those who were their  brothers and allies.
