AUSTRALIA has provided more personal protective equipment to the PNG Government as it continues to support its Covid-19 response plan.
Australia’s Deputy High Commissioner to PNG Caitlin Wilson said: “Australia stands with PNG throughout this difficult period. We are working with the PNG Government to support health workers and the community to have access to information and equipment to minimise the spread of infection.”
The PPEs include masks, goggles, protective clothing and gloves which will be distributed by the Health Department.
It follows a request to Australia from the Prime Minister, James Marape for specific assistance to help the country’s preparedness.
Australia has re-prioritised more than K67 million from existing commitments to provide a wide-ranging package of support to PNG to prepare for and respond to Covid-19.
A statement from the Australian High Commission also said the delivery was part of Australia’s commitment to provide Papua New Guinea, with up to two million
pieces of PPEs for health workers.
It will also provide essential support to those at the frontline.
“This is in addition to the 750kg of PPE already provided,” the statement said.
