MAGANI, one of the oldest clubs in the Lae Rugby League competition, received a set of jerseys from Queensland company Northbuild Construction last Friday.
On hand to receive jerseys were club president Steven Geling, vice-president Lionel Kamiak, players and officials.
Operations manager Allan Wheeler said general manager Graham Boddington supported rugby league in Papua New Guinea since the company started work in the country six years ago.
“We are pleased to be sponsoring the team and know they will be having a great season,” Wheeler said.
“This is the second time we’re sponsoring Magani in Lae. Also in Port Moresby, Graham has supported teams and we are pleased to be associated with rugby league in PNG.”
Geling acknowledged North Build Construction for stepping-in to support the team through their sponsorship of jerseys and paying of club and player registration fees.
He said the club had three teams in the competition – women’s, Under-20 and men’s sides.
Geling said their players were made up of youths living around Cassowary Road, toptown and Kamkumung.
“Apart from Northbuild, we have PNG Metal Fabrications and QED. They are our three sponsors with Northbuild being the major one, coming in heavily this year,” he said.
“We’ve completed our round-one games but we have not performed well.
“With round two coming around, our sponsors would like to see some results.”
Geling said the club were looking forward to building a strong relationship with the company.
