THE first group of Australian trekkers who walked the famous Kokoda Track last week are expected to arrive at the Owers Corner with a welcome reception in Sogeri today.
Acting managing director for Kokoda Track Authority Julius Wargirai told The National the 17 Trackers from ‘No Roads Tours’ completed their eight-day walk on the Kokoda Track today.
“No Roads is the first tour operator to walk the track this year after the track was open for the season a week ago.”
He said the trekkers were also raising awareness for the Kokoda Track after it was closed mid last year due to landowner complaints and issues.
According to statistics from the Tourism Promotion Authority, the Kokoda Track is the highest tourist destination in the country.
