THE Lae City Authority backed Digicel Cup champions Lae Tigers and reigning National Soccer League champions City with K50,000 each in the Morobe capital on Monday.
Authority chairman John Rosso said Lae Biscuit Company-sponsored teams were ambassadors of the provincial capital, so it was only appropriate that “we support them in their endeavours”.
Lae MP Rosso commended the Chow family and company for their continued support of sports.
He said the authority, under his chairmanship, had honoured its commitment by presenting a total of K100,000 to both franchises.
“Without the (company’s) major sponsorship of the Tigers and City, Lae would not be represented at the national level,” Rosso said.
Company business director and group manager John Chow received the funding on behalf of the franchises.
He expressed his gratitude to the authority for its support in helping both franchises represent the city at the national level. “You may think it (sponsorship) is small, but it makes a big difference to us,” Chow said.
Chow said the company and its franchises were looking forward to continuing their partnership with the authority and contributing to meaningful development in the city.
