FORESTRY is now one of the key economic sectors in terms of donor funding for the country, says PNG Forestry Authority managing director John Mossoro.
“Through the intervention of the Prime Minister James Marape, we have secured funding from the French government for more than K100 million to go towards forest sustainability for the country,” he said.
“We have also received support in forest modelling which will be supported by the British government.”
He said the projects would be implemented this year.
Before the International Day of Forests event yesterday in Port Moresby, Mossoro attended a meeting with Marape, Deputy PM John Rosso and other department heads to discuss their 2023 annual statements.
Department heads are required to submit an annual performance report to the Government to secure funding for projects.
“So far we have done well in terms of our corporate and strategic plans for 2023, and our budget for this year has gone through to the Government,” he said.
“We have now increased our budget, as request for funding has increased on our warrants.
“We are working to achieve our goals for this year. I am encouraging the PNGFA staff here to work together as we always do. We must have our 2023 annual performance report submitted before month-end to ensure that we keep our funding going.”
