THE Lae City Authority, through local MP John Rosso, presented K50,000 each to Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League champions Lae City and Digicel Cup grand finalists Lae Tigers yesterday.
Rosso congratulated City for winning their grand final against Vitiaz United in Port Moresby on Saturday night.
“Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it to watch City’s game but I will make up for it by watching the Tigers’ game on Sunday,” he told the franchises.
“The Tigers are going into the finals this weekend, I know 100 per cent you’ll win the game.
“Lae Biscuit Company is a big employer in Lae with nearly 1,000 employees and as the local MP, I’m happy about this partnership that we have.
“We don’t have a lot of money to give but the big thing is representing the city.”
Rosso said Lae had a lot of issues but it did not stop them from supporting the flagship clubs.
“It is privilege to support you as co-sponsors of City and Tigers,” he said.
“Lae is a multicultural city and is our place so when you wear your jersey you wear our pride and joy and I’m very thankful for that.”
Rosso also took time to acknowledge the Chow family and Lae Biscuit Company for supporting soccer and rugby league.
“Time are very hard when it comes to finding good sponsors who put in a lot of money to support young talents,” he said.
“They groom you and not only that, but support you individually some of you in school fees and in employment so I’d like to thank the Chow family.”
Lae Biscuits Company’s Adrian Chow said: “Thank you for pledging these cheques.
“The company has supported the Tigers for 10 years and City for four years now.
“Our purpose in supporting sports and clubs is because we want to give an opportunity back to the people in PNG who buy our products in biscuits, noodles, sausages and others.
“We want to give back to the community not only in town but right down to the small clubs at the village level.
“We know it’s very hard for clubs in rural area to get support from companies.”
