Authority putting up streetlights

THE Lae city authority (LCA) is putting up new street lights in an effort to reduce crime and for safety.
LCA chief officer Neill Ellery said funding for the project came from its 20 per cent goods and services tax from the infrastructure component.
“Under this funding component, we will be putting new lighting on streets for safety and this will add value to decreasing criminal activities and for people to feel safe to walk around,” Ellery said.
He said the authority had committed funds for 200 new streetlights in Lae and 94 lights were installed so far.
“This is for a start and is done on main road links within the city limits.”
Ellery said they were putting up festive greetings signs at bus stops.
He said once lightings were up and working, they would do maintenance work on the drainage systems and roads.
“By the time the 200 lights have gone up, most major road-links within the city should be okay and we will try to look at other road-links within the city and a bit further if possible.”
Ellery said the project should cost about K2 million.

  • Restoring street lighting can relief lessen anxiety, violation and chaos. I much-admired the Lae MP (Hon. John Rosso) and the Lae city Authority for establishing modern technologies by installing CCTV surveillance cameras, security lights and alarm systems in the vicinity of Lae City.

The outcomes validate that not merely environmental tenacity influence crime, but which ventures or investments in vicissitudes to the physical environment such as new street lights can supplement fortes to prop up public safety and assist dwindle citywide discriminations in crime diminution. Once again well done Lae City Authority and the MP Hon. John Rosso.
