Authority, Rigo officials working on fisheries firm

THE National Fisheries Authority is working with Rigo (Central) technical officers to form a fisheries company and register it with the Investment Promotion Authority by the end of this month.
This proposal is for the Rigo Fisheries Corporation, a business arm of the district to fulfil one of the district’s five-year development plans.
According to National Fisheries coordinator Presley Kokwaiye, the district needs to register to get an operating licence.
“We are happy to build a fisheries building for the people of Rigo in Kwikila, the outcome would bring great benefits, thanks to local MP Lekwa Gure for taking this bold initiative,” Kokwaiye said.
“The NFA will help establish the company by buying and exporting their marine products nationally and internationally.
Kokwaiya said NFA had given a total of K250,000 to the district for the facilities and building and construction was expected to start in June.
He said it was a sustainable project.
Kokwaiya said beche-de-mer would be the first product local people would need to supply.
“The NFA will help supply products to our local markets here and if we see good value, we might export some overseas,” he said.
Kokwaiye said once the ice machine facilities were installed inside the building, supply would start.
Gure, with the help of district funding, bought 14 banana boats and engines for the Rigo area last week.
