A TEAM of police officers, with Manus police commander Chief Insp David Yapu, carried law and order awareness in Maraman ward, Lelemadih Bupichupen local level government, last Sunday.
Maraman councillor with their peace officer and other community leaders invited police to talk to the people as law and order issues related to the consumption of homebrew and marijuana had begun to rise.
Chief Insp Yapu said the problems had been ongoing with youths unwilling to change their behaviour.
He said some women had also raised concern about their safety.
Chief Insp Yapu said students were also involved in consuming homebrew and drugs in school but little had been done as the students and their parents had allegedly threatened teachers.
He warned youths at the gathering to stay away from alcohol and drugs and focus on activities that would build their communities.
“I want you to change your mindset and become good members of your village.”
