THREE business premises were torched in Chimbu’s Gembogl on Saturday in retaliation for an attack on a government delegation the day before.
It is understood Chimbu police commander Supt Epenes Nili was also in the convoy that came under attack and could not be reached for comment.
According to an eye witness, Kundiawa-Gembogl MP Muguwa Dilu led the entourage which included Governor Noah Kool, provincial administrator John Punde and Nili among others to launch a new electricity hydro project in the Niglguma local level government area.
The reason for the attack is yet to be established, however, Dilu’s supporters retaliated on Saturday and burnt down a stationery shop, a tire service centre and a fast food outlet.
Dilu condemned the ambush on the delegation on Friday saying: “Today is a time to deliver services to the people of Kundiawa-Gembogl who have the right to access much needed basic services.
“I am doing my electoral rounds to progress my projects of which the hydro project is into the critical stage.
“All those people involved in the ambush to throwing stones at the vehicles and causing injuries are wrong, it is now a police matter.
“You will face the law for your actions.”
