THE Justin Tkatchenko Super Nines Cup’s Under-20 matches have been deferred due to the wet weather currently experienced in Port Moresby, tournament director Bagelo Solien says.
Solien said the field was flooded after the heavy downpour on Friday and Saturday.
He said they made the decision in order to protect the pitch that was still too wet and soft.
“Grounds men worked overnight on Friday and continued throughout Saturday and today (yesterday) to pump out the water,” he said.
“I appeal to all the team officials to respect the decision to safeguard the field and also avoid injuries.
“We will meet today (yesterday) to confirm the resumption of the U20 washout matches and also remaining games to complete round three for respective pools.”
Meanwhile, Solien had advised participating teams last week of the organisers frustration regarding the overage players in the division.
