BAD weather has been hampering efforts to deliver relief supplies to Southern Highlands, but Oil Search teams were able to evacuate six people, including two children, from villages in Kutubu.
Four adults and a child were treated at the company’s Moro clinic while an adult and child were transferred to the Tari Hospital in Hela for treatment.
Head of Oil Search Health Services, Rick Loveridge said they wanted to support the government to ensure there were enough healthcare workers available.
“This is a particularly important issue because health workers themselves will have been affected and may not be present at the clinics,” he said.
Loveridge said Oil Search had medical teams on standby at Moro ready to assist.
The Australian Government’s aircraft arrived with medical kits bound for rural clinics in Hela and Southern Highlands.
A New Zealand Defence Force C130 Hercules aircraft also arrived in Moro yesterday with relief supplies.
