Bail for former E. Sepik treasurer

FORMER East Sepik provincial treasurer, Haru Yahamani, is out on K3,000 bail after he was arrested and charged in connection with “official corruption”.
Police detectives from the National Anti-Corruption Alliance (NACA) last Friday took in Yahamani exactly a week after the arrest and charged of former East Sepik provincial administrator, Fantson Yaninen, for alleged fraud and misappropriation of about K142,000.
Yahamani, 49, from Baimusu village in Yangoru district, was charged on two counts of “official corruption” and one count of “abuse of office”.
Police alleged that “while Mr Yahamani was a provincial treasurer, he used his position to engage his own company, Baimusu Ltd, and drew down funds from the Sepik Highway Roads and Bridges Trust Account totalling K145,295.56 for the renovation of the Wosera Gawi district treasury office.It was alleged that the normal process was not followed.
The contract never went before the provincial supply and tenders board for deliberation and approval.
Police also alleged that Yahamani and his wife were registered shareholders of Baimusu Ltd.
