BANK of Papua New Guinea Governor Loi Bakani thanked the Kauzi family and people of Siboma village in the Morobe local level government of Huon Gulf, for giving a “very intelligent researcher and adviser” the late Dr Gae Kauzi.
Kauzi, who was deputy governor of the Bank of Papua New Guinea, passed away on June 9, in Brisbane, Australia, after a short illness.
Speaking during Kauzi’s funeral service at Our Saviour Lutheran church in Lae on Saturday, Bakani said the Kauzi’s passing left a big gap in his work as the bank’s leading researcher and adviser.
“He was a good man and served with high distinction in his service to the bank and the country,” he said.
“He was a well-respected man because he was full of humility.”
“He contributed many things, and with his loss, it will be a challenge for us to find someone like him.”
Late Kauzi joined BPNG on May 10, 1993, and served in various capacities in the economics department and later as the head of the research department. He was later appointed assistant governor for monetary and economic policy group on Oct 3, 2011, and thereafter was promoted to deputy governor on July 1, 2016.
He served in this role until his death.
Late Kauzi held a Bachelor of Economics degree with Honours from the University of PNG, a master’s degree in policy economics from the University of Illinois, USA, and a doctoral degree in Economics from Monash University, Australia.
