Baker family bury son

NO post-mortem was conducted on Tommy Maeva Baker as per the wishes of his parents, police say.
Baker was laid to rest on Monday at Cape Vogel, Rabaraba, Milne Bay.
Provincial police commander Supt Peter Barkie confirmed the burial.
Parents Baker and Edna Maeva had told The National that their wish was to bury their son at his mother’s village, Cape Vogel.
They had said that they would be writing to the police to release their son’s body without conducting a post-mortem.
“What happened has happened and we want no more done to his body,” Baker said.
“We want to take him to Cape Vogel.
“He told us that if anything happened to him, he was to be buried on his mother’s land.”
Baker, 36 was shot as he, with other armed men, engaged a police unit at the Viole Bridge, Kwaini settlement, between 10pm and 11pm last Dec 30.
His eight-year reign of terror ended when he tried to fight his way out of a police team on its way to arrest him.
Police Commissioner David Manning confirmed that Baker had been shot as he and others engaged a police unit “as the (officers) were moving into Kwaini settlement”.
“The unit was acting on information received on the whereabouts of Baker,” Manning said.
According to information received by The National, Baker had been living around Alotau town for some time because he was injured and was trying to seek treatment.
