POLICE Commissioner Gari Baki has directed an investigation into the attack on Parliament by security forces on Tuesday.
Baki told a media conference yesterday that an investigation team would be set up including officers from the Ombudsman Commission.
“There will be an investigation team that will be set up,” he said.
“Once that’s established, I will write to the Ombudsman Commission and request to release one or two officers who will be part of the investigation team.
“We will revisit the actions that had been undertaken from the time of Rita Flynn Courts, to the destructions at Parliament to the meeting held and attended by Members of Parliament.
“If any member of the police force or Correctional Services are found to be in breach of the law, they will be arrested and charged.
“There will be no immunity. I have no authority to give immunity to anyone.
“If you are being caught and found guilty, then you are guilty.”
Baki said they would not take this matter lightly.
“It is disappointing to me, as commissioner, and I am ashamed of what the (police) men and women have done, including members of CS and members of the public.
“If you have something to do with the destruction of Parliament, you should be ashamed of yourself.
“You will be held accountable of your actions if you are found to have contributed towards that.
“Once we set up the team and get down to the terms of references being established, we will look at every activity that had been undertaken,
“If officers are found to be in breach of this, we will deal with them.
“For the call for the commissioner to be replaced, I’m appointed by Cabinet and only Cabinet will replace me -no one else,” he said.
Meanwhile Baki said JSTF had secured K10.8 million: the first batch of the allowances of K1800 per person was paid on Wednesday.
“When the next batch of allowances comes in next week, we will be paid another K1800,” Baki said.
