Baki wants 500 ex-servicemen recruited in Hela

Police Commissioner Gari Baki says that he has asked the Government to recruit 500 retired ex-servicemen to help enforce law and order in  Hela.
Baki said that the former police, soldiers and warders would  be on a six-year contract to train new police officers under the Hela police transitional command.
“I have already submitted a project paper to the Government regarding this concept,” Baki said.
He said that when witnessing the destruction  96 factor-made guns and 719 home-made arms in Tari on Monday to end the first stage of a call-out operation.
“But I’m challenging the provincial government and the administration to provide infrastructural development for the new police officers,” Baki said.
Meanwhile, Hela Governor Francis Potape has urged Baki to work with the Department of Personnel Management to approve the police transitional command in two weeks.
