A leader of a Catholic parish in East Sepik has thanked the Bangladesh Association in Port Moresby for a K10,000 donation to help refurbish the parish church.
Martin Maingu, chairman of the Good Shepard Parish in Haiwain, said they had been in Port Moresby for the last three weeks raising money and was grateful to receive a contribution from such a community.
Maingu told The National that the church was built in 1958 and was in need of renovation.
“The roof of the church has gone rusty,” he said.
Maingu said Good Shepard needed a face lift as it was the main parish serving 10 villages and a congregation of about 3000.
Maingu said besides the donation, they had raised K13,000 from activities including selling food and raffle draws.
“NCD Governor Powes Parkop has also pledged to give us K5000,” he said.
Bangladesh Association Vice-president MA Wahed said they had previously made donations to other organisations such as Cheshire Home and Port Moresby Rehabilitation Centre.
