Bank clarifies disruption at ATMs

BANK South Pacific Financial Group Ltd (BSP) yesterday advised that its electronic transfers could not be performed in certain instances, according to chief executive Robin Fleming.
“BSP did experience an issue from around 2.30am (yesterday) after a software firmware upgrade for our interchange switch that was implemented in the early hours of the morning,” he told The National.
“An unexpected outcome was that BSP’s transaction communications via the interchange with other banks, which is the retail electronic payments system also known as Reps, failed and electronic transactions could not be processed in certain instances.
“We did attempt to fall back to our secondary links but they were also not working.”
Fleming said BSP cards would not work on the ATMs or Eftpos terminals of other banks.
“And other bank cards would not work on BSP ATMs or terminals,” he said.
“This problem was resolved at around 11.30am (yesterday).
“BSP apologises for the inconvenience caused to our customers.”
