Bank helps school with renovation, new furniture

Education

STUDENTS and teachers in Ijika Primary School, Northern, now have new chairs and tables and will enjoy a renovated grand stand and two classrooms thanks to Bank South Pacific Financial Group Ltd (BSP).
BSP Popondetta branch manager Samuel Okti said education was the foundation of life and, as a community bank, they understood the challenges in communities and wanted to help in education, health and sports.
Okti said the project was valued at K30,000 and was part of the bank’s community project initiative.
“Being the bank of our people in the area, BSP is happy to give back to this school,” he said.
Forty new double desks, eight teachers’ desks and chairs, a renovated grandstand and two classrooms were handed over to the school recently as part of the branch’s community project for this year.
Ijika Primary School head teacher Owen Miminegari was pleased with the bank’s assistance.
“Most of the furniture in the school are old and deteriorating,” he said.
“Receiving these new desks, chairs and tables and these minor renovations will definitely boost the school’s academic performance.
“Basic education is the education given to pupils at the primary level and given the necessary tools such as desks and a refreshed learning environment plays a big role in enhancing quality education in our schools.”
BSP group general manager for retail Daniel Faunt said Bank South Pacific would continue to enhance the lives of its 33,000-plus customers, community members and the general public in Northern, through many more other projects such as this.
“We have delivered 12 annual projects valued at K275,000 since 2009, in Northern,” he said.
