Bank robbery suspects arrested

TWO people accused of stealing about K221,700 from Bank South Pacific (BSP) in Gulf have been arrested and locked up at the Kerema police station, police commander Snr Insp Michael Pakyei says.
“Solomon Alex , 27, from Paivera village, Ihu in Gulf, and Kairi Aua, 35, from Baimuru, Gulf, have each been charged with break and enter and stealing K221,700 from the BSP Kerema branch on Dec 12.
Another suspect, Makatala Kitobing, 30, from Hapataiwa village in Kaintiba, Gulf, was arrested and charged with receiving K300 from the stolen money.
She is out on a K100 bail because there is no female detention cell at the station.
Kitobing is Aua’s wife.
“When bank staff went to work on Monday, Dec 14, they noticed that the backdoor of the bank broken and called us into investigate,” Snr Insp Paktei said.
“We went into the bank and upon investigation found that the door to the room where the safe was kept was broken.
“But then, that door was broken long time ago and the branch management didn’t bother to fix it.
“So the safe had been exposed for a long time.”
