THE Women’s Micro Bank (WMB) has signed a deal with the Human Development Institute (HDI) to help women develop their knowledge in the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector.
A WMB statement said the institute would offer training before the bank made funds available so women could run their businesses.
This will assist in their income generating activities to become more stable, and eventually migrate into formal SMEs, hence lifting them out of poverty.
WMB chief executive Gunanidhi Das said WMB would always empower women who could drive economic empowerment.
“WMB entrenched our business philosophy in women economic empowerment because women take care of their families’ welfare and are the best managers of every household,” Das said. “Therefore, WMB places greater emphasis on inclusive development of family through women empowerment.
“Savings should be a habit of each woman and girl.
“WMB believes that empowering and building the financial capacity of every mother and girl with savings culture will have a greater impact in their lives in terms of financial independence so that women and girls can be able to make informed decisions in meeting their personal as well as their families’ current and future needs.”
