WESTPAC Bank PNG plans to invest more in providing accessible banking to its customers in the country.

Managing director Geoff Toone said the bank which had been in PNG for 106 years would be upgrading its branch networks and electronically, to make it easy for  Papua New Guineans to access banking transactions and services.

Toone said 2015 had been a positive year for the bank.

“We are very much focused on making sure that we are open, available and we’ve got all the flexibility for all facets of society to be able to use our services,” he said.

“We have been really pleased with the things that we are contributing to.

“Our corporate and banking expertise are growing and changing in a positive way.

“Our electronic banking is growing in a positive way.

“You have seen our retail network advancing.

“What really pleases me as well are the financial programmes that have been rolling out in the country.

“And I am really pleased and lucky enough to have seen a number of those during the year of presentation.

“Its an achievement to have people understand how our banking industry can help advance the country.

“I see a positive start (for 2016) as we move forward.”

Toone said the bank was looking at working on a cultural framework that would ensure each staff understood the bank’s direction on growth.

He was addressing the Certified Practising Accountants conference in Port Moresby last Friday.
