Bankers hold off Fisheries

TOP sides Bank Southern Pacific and Professional Transport survived the cut in Port Moresby’s Corporate touch open men’s division (Pool A) at Murray Barracks oval yesterday.
BSP were stretched to their credit limit by Fisheries before eventually winning by a whisker 6-5 at the buzzer.
Scores were 3-3 at half time.
The green machine were forced to dig deep in the match but their experienced players Tony William, Francis Alu, Charlie Rupa and Charlie David combined to lead the bankers out of trouble.
In the other match, Professional Transport led by stylish Gulf youngster Allan Eri buried the hopes of SPAC with a 6-3 win.
BSP and Pro Transports now face PNG Ports and defending champions Moni Plus in the preliminary finals this weekend to decide the grand final berths.
Last year’s grand finalists were Moni Plus and BSP who could face each other in a repeat of the 2011 decider.
Both Fisheries and SPAC are out of the premiership campaign.
In women’s open division Pro Transport stopped Fisheries 5-1. Moni Plus ousted SPAC 8-5.
Both teams will play BSP and PNG Ports to decide the grand final slots.
In the senior mixed  division, Pro Transport enjoyed some success thrashing Bishop Brothers Engineering 15-4.
Fisheries edged SPAC 7-6.
In the masters division, Brian Bell beat Mineral Resources Authority 5-3.
In the Pool B open men’s division, Brian Bell edged ANZ 5-4 and Westpac had too much flare for Post Courier with a 5-1 thumping.
In senior women’s division, the match between KK Kingston and Tourism Promotional Authority ended in a dispute and will be settled by the executives before the weekend.
Port Moresby Grammar walked over a hapless MRA 7-0 in the other match.
