Barramundis coaches want improvement in batting

BETTER emphasis on batting at the national level was the reminder from the Papua New Guinea Barramundis coaching team following sub-standard scores in round two of the 50-over Isuzu National Cup.
A disappointed Barras assistant coach John Ovia said the team score totals of 99 and 54 (from Friday’s match) in a 50-over match was a worrying sign with the batting in the men’s matches.
“This game was dissapointing from a batting perspective, I have spoken to the group about our objectives and expect to see a vast improvement in the following games,” he said.
“These things happen occasionally in sport, you must brush yourselves off and move on with more intent in the next match and I’m confident the boys will do this.”
Meanwhile, Barras head coach Carl Sandri was pleased with the second day of matches in the Cup adding that he was “encouraged to see particularly Isuzu Black apply themselves better with the bat”.
“As I have stated earlier in the week, with such a long lay off from cricket there, will be mixed results,” he said.
“These two games are an example, the Barras involved in this game stood up and in Assad’s case, controlled the game.
“Great to see some of the other younger players doing well too, Travis Vuivagi played well in this game and Boge Arua has been putting in some handy performances in the tournament to date.
“The tournament total scores and batsmens’ individual scores will improve as the tournament progress, as the players bodies and minds get back into the groove.
“We will also start to see our bowlers increase their workloads as their bodies and muscles become in-tune with playing again.”
