Basil and O’Neill

Letters

I CAMPAIGNED alongside Sam Basil and the Pangu Team in Morobe and especially Lae Open seat during the 2017 National Elections.
We pretty much wowed the public on many occasions from Bumayong to 4-Mile, East Taraka to Hanta-Malahang. And we have one agenda alone – Peter O’Neill.
The crowd bought it and it scared the PNC so much they did not openly endorse a candidate in Lae Open seat.
I was instrumental in raising public interest and awareness of impromptu gatherings for Sam Basil to speak in.
He spoke at Lae’s main bus stop with William Samb in attendance, and in Lae’s CBD at 4th Street twice to huge gatherings and support.
We garnered high interest from a wider section of the population for Pangu Pati and Basil from the public.
But I am now left to wonder if we were used to market someone’s pride or ambitions rather than the hunger and drive to serve the people.
Morobeans were made to believe in Pangu, not because Basil was the Deputy Opposition Leader.
Morobeans voted for Pangu because its leader went all out against corruption.
Basil was seen as the saviour long waited for, to eventually put a prime minister behind bars for corruption.
People were fed up with it.
Shortly after the elections, the voters were left dismayed and frustrated to see Basil leading the Pangu group across to join someone he himself made us to believe was not a good leader.
Now these same lots are watching with keen interest what Basil’s next move will be.
Basil knew he is the x-factor in this current struggle for change.
The move to oust the current prime minster could well be a litmus test for Basil’s leadership.
This could well make or break the member in 2022 National General Elections.
If I was Basil, I will go where I was meant to go as mandated by the people in the 2017 election.

V B Andrias,
Lae
