NATIONAL Planning Minister Sam Basil recently approved K15 million for road and water sanitation projects for North Waghi electorate in Jiwaka.
Basil made the announcement to people who had gathered at Dumbola near Banz to witness a reconciliation ceremony initiated by the Kumuka Ngants Kapangkup (KNK) tribe with local MP Dr Fabian Pok.
The projects announced include the sealing of 15km of the Sipil-Las Wari road (K5 million); the upgrading of a 25km stretch of the road linking Kendu, Nondugl and Milep, and; K5 million water supply project for Banz town, where water would be sourced from Kaunang, upstream of the Mombol river.
KNK leader and former two-term North Waghi MP William Wii thanked Basil for the projects which would transform the lives of the people.
The KNK tribe killed 42 pigs and presented them to Pok to settle election differences and renewed their allegiance to him in the upcoming election in 2020.
Pok had supported KNK Holdings Ltd with a funding of K200,000 in 2016 but the tribe had not supported him during the last elections.
The tribe said Pok did a lot for them in paying school fees for their children and providing building materials for their homes and businesses.
Pok pledged to help parents in his electorate with school fees in 2020.
He said he would pay 30 per cent of school fees for students from elementary to grade 12 across the 44 wards in North Waghi.
He said a solar lighting panel distribution and installation project would be rolled out in the district next month.
