Basketball releases format for Apia Games

THE basketball schedule and format for the 2019 Pacific Games has been finalised.
The venues and playing order for all the games of the group phase (July 8-13) has been determined, while the games in the final phase (July 15-17) were also confirmed.
“We are happy to release the schedule and format of the competition of the Pacific Games to give teams ample time for preparation for the tournament,” Fiba Oceania competitions manager Amanda Jenkins, pictured, said.
“It’s going to be a spectacle and we are confident that the basketball competition will be one of the biggest events at the Pacific Games.”
Competition format: teams will play a round robin within their pool in the preliminary round of the competition; the top placed team in each pool will advance to the semifinals; the teams placed second and third in each pool will play cross-over qualifying finals; the winners of the qualifying finals will advance to the semifinals (to play against the first placed teams from preliminary round; semifinal winners play for gold and the semifinal losers play for bronze; the fourth placed teams from each pool and losers of the qualifying finals will play classification games for positions.
The men’s and women’s division are divided into two pools.
Men: Pool A — Guam, New Caledonia, Samoa, Tonga; Pool B — Fiji, PNG, Solomon Islands, Tahiti.
Women: Pool A — Cook Islands, Fiji, New Caledonia, Samoa; Pool B — American Samoa, Guam, PNG, Tahiti.
