MORE than 500 Renewal Church women from 18 centres in the Afore district gathered for their convention at Koeno village, Afore local level government in the Ijivitari district of Northern from April 9-14.

The theme of the convention was ‘Let your light shine before all men’taken from Mathew 5:15.

Speakers stressed on the need for women to be active in society especially in the field of spiritual development.

They reminded everyone that in the New Testament, there were many examples of women playing significant roles in the ministry of Jesus Christ.

In particular, women witnessed the crucifixion executed by men (Roman soldiers) and being the first to break the news about Jesus’ resurrection to the disciples who were men.

Women have therefore been encouraged to develop their ministries alongside men.

It was further stressed that the PNG society and culture were dominated by men and women were only seen as child bearers and kitchen supervisors.

It discourages women therefore from fully exposing their full potential in Jesus Christ who had already set them free on the Cross of Calvary 2,000 years ago.

The Word of God frees everyone – male or female. Women are encouraged to use church gatherings to promote and spread the gospel rather than use them to gossip, the very tool used by Satan to destroy churches.

Pr John Goviro, Pr Gabriel Kuarisi and Pr Wardman Sigege also addressed the women.

Sigege warned the church to prepare for the return of the Son of Man which was the final destiny of the church on earth.

He told the gathering that as a businessman, wealth and materialism did not stop him from committing self to the work of God.

He pledged to buy irons sheets for new church buildings at Tabaune and Kawowoki centres.

The convention ended on April 14 with more than 100 new converts baptised.
