Be careful of Chinese investment, loans

I AM concerned about the controversies surrounding China’s push to expand its influence over the globe apparently as a push back on negative global opinion on its controversial “One China policy” and in recent times, its support or lack of condemnation for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the invasion of Crimea in 2014.
While it is true that Papua New Guinea benefits significantly from Chinese foreign direct investments and loans in developing important infrastructures, PNG must be very careful with the manner in which the loans are structured, especially controversial clauses in the loans agreements.
