Be careful what you post on Facebook

Letters

I AM sure people understand that Facebook’s main use is to keep in touch with friends and family.
We post a couple of pictures from our vacation and favourite games to let people know what we like.
And give a quick status update about how things are going in our lives.
What some of us don’t understand is that Facebook is not a diary where we tell the whole world about every detail of our lives.
To some extent, I’m sure each of us, myself included, have posted a little too much but there are some people that take things to the absolute extreme.
For instance, new relationships are fun and exciting, we all want to tell the world about it.
But we don’t need to see 10 posts daily about the way their eyes sparkle.
We’ve all done it, but most of us grew out of it.
Just because we don’t put it on Facebook daily doesn’t mean that we don’t have a happy relationship.
People think Facebook can solve intimate problems.
When we get annoyed with friends, family members and even spouses, we feed Facebook with everything instead of confronting the people and solving the issues face to face.
Facebook does not need to hear about your life dramas.
Keep it to yourself.
I don’t need to post “She annoyed me today and I’m mad” and then a five-paragraph explanation.
Nobody wants to know if you’re sick, injuries you acquire during rugby training or what you ate today.
It’s too much. Facebook is neither your doctor nor your diary.
Sometimes, people don’t realise that posting every tiny detail of their lives poses a security risk – i.e if you post about your plans for the day in detail, you could be robbed or harassed by an unexpected stranger.
Anyone who wish to harm a person may simply type the person’s name on Facebook and get their personal details.
On the other hand, Facebook allows people to engage, interact and connect.
It is a vibrant platform for people who want to grow their business and advertise their products online.
As a social media platform for students, Facebook is dynamic.
It delivers newsworthy information for our studies and gives us access to global knowledge.
We live in the digital age where we need mobile phones, computers and other electronic devices.
We cannot avoid technological advances, we need to just go with it.
If we do not change, our lives will be a lot different and a lot difficult.
