Be careful with ABG appointments

Letters

IT is now a common gossip that many of the unsuccessful candidates for the recent presidential election in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville are knocking at the door of the president to get appointed to senior public service positions.
Recently, the Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG) created new departments to cater for the candidates who lost in the presidential election.
The sad thing is a few of them have fake birth certificates even though they have gone past 65-years-old.
There is no issue if these candidates are qualified.
However, they are using their influence and network to seek favours from the ABG to be considered for senior positions.
It is disappointing to hear that some are former public servants who held senior positions and who later contested the election.
These former public servants and unsuccessful candidates are now trying to influence those in authority to push them through on a “who you know” basis.
Recently, the ABG advertised some senior public service positions; don’t be surprised if many of these people are appointed on senior positions.
To the ABG President Ishmael Toroama and his team, the people of Bougainville are watching to ensure that merit-based appointments are made.
