ACTING NCD-Central Assistant Police Commissioner Jerry Frank has reminded officers to be cautious and mindful of their actions in public.

On or off duty, they had to behave in public, he says.

Frank reiterated the reminder and caution following a serious assault of a police officer at 9-Mile on Sunday.

He said increased negative reports of police brutality and officers’ ill-behaviour were jeopardising police safety and public support for them.

Opportunists may see officers’ bad conduct and use it as an excuse to attack officers, Frank said.

These attacks can stem from previous issues with the police or from other issues within communities, he said. Frank called on all officers to be mindful while in public places and when visiting places they regularly went.

“Be mindful of your actions whether you are in uniform or not,” he said.
