PNG Power Limited managing director Flagon Bekker says the new board chairman Moses Maladina and directors bring in a lot of experience into the company.
Businessman Maladina was appointed by the National Executive Council on Jan 20 to replace Peter Nupiri. The two female board directors are businesswoman Akae Beach, who holds a masters degree in accounting, and Sarah Kuman, who has a law degree and specialises in corporate and natural resource law.
Bekker said the experience they brought into PNG Power were “exceptional”.
“There is depth, breadth from internal auditing experience to resources sector deal making experience,” he said
Bekker said Maladina brought extensive experience in political leadership and business. “PNG Power is very fortunate to have candidates of this caliber joining the board,” he said.
Bekker said leadership was a skill which could be learnt and practised to master.
“What helps us in leadership skills is to have role models,” he said.
“And, ultimately, for me personally, that’s what the board is.
“Members of the board are here to act as role models for the management and leadership team, and broadly speaking, across the small-medium enterprises.”
