THE Port Moresby Netball Association (POMNA) received K8,000 as sponsorship from beverage company Sany Limited at 6-Mile last week.
Company operations manager Ming Li Wong presented the cheque to association president Linda Ligo and her deputy Lynette Maha. Wong said the firm was proud to support women in sport as a way of promoting healthier lifestyles in the community.
He said the money would help the association conduct a coaches and umpires refresher clinic with trainers Ani Iamo, Eva Kini and Margaret Opina at the Rita Flynn Netball Courts. Maha said the association was aiming to have 20 women attend the Netball Papua New Guinea-accredited two-day clinic, which will be held in two weeks’ time.
“This a great way to end the POMNA calendar and prepare umpires and coaches for next season,” he said. Ligo said the sponsorship was a blessing for the association.
“These funds will support us a lot in programmes that will benefit the association in the years to come,” she said.
“Netball is developing fast. It gets a lot of girls and women involved. And now with men’s and mixed netball, the sport is going from strength to strength in Port Moresby.”
Ligo thanked the company for the sponsorship.
She hoped that the relationship with Sany Limited would continue in the future.
