Bible translation to benefit tribe members

Papua

MEMBERS of a tribe from Central Kerema in Gulf will be able to read the Bible in their own Tairuma language after it was translated by a group of people.
The Tairuma Language Group of Central Kerema is working on the final draft of the book which is expected to be launched before the end of the year.
A team was selected from the United Church and the Assemblies of God to attend a translation course for all the languages in the country at the SIL Training Centre in Eastern Highlands.
AOG Pastor Heisi Mako thanked the group members for their contribution and their support in cash and kind over the past year to bring the project this far.
“I thank you all for your support and prayers for the Tairuma Language Group,” Mako said.
He also thanked the overall project team for collecting the information and establishing the office bearers.
“I am encouraged by the partnership of local churches working alongside each other. The elders of the AOG church and United Church in Kerema have given us the blessing to use the church facilities for our meetings and other trainings,” Heisi said.
Participant Gabriel Ikamu said apart from translating the Bible, they would produce a Tairuma audio Bible for the blind and illiterate.
