EAST Sepik Governor Allen Bird says the Coronavirus (Covid-19) is real and is killing Papua New Guineans.
“The public must stop believing in negative and false information being spread via social media,” he said.
“Get vaccinated immediately to stay safe from the Covid-19.

“That vaccines contain metals and foreign substances are false and are scaring the people from getting vaccinated.
“This must stop now.
“Vaccines are nothing new.
“We all get vaccinated with the Bacillus Calmette-Gurin to fight tuberculosis (TB) but we still have people dying of TB.
“It was not wrong that we took vaccines because we saved many lives as well.
“Two years ago, during the polio vaccination in East Sepik, some people protested the vaccination, beating up health workers.
“Now we have the lowest rate of vaccination in the world due to the dissemination of misinformation, starting from Parliament.”
Debating in Parliament on Wednesday, Bird urged MPs to give their information based on the facts and not something they made up or from social media.
“We are careless on our use of data and this cannot continue,” he said.
“Our carelessness result in the loss of trust of communities in us.
“We, as leaders, must check our facts before we speak.
“The Covid-19 is evolving and we, thus, need to change our strategies and adapt to survive.
“According to world statistics, 6.56 billion doses have been administered to date. But, only about 200,000 of nine million Papua New Guineans have been vaccinated.
“Those who died from the Covid-19 in East Sepik are all unvaccinated.”
