EAST Sepik Governor Allan Bird wants to make Angoram the next area in Papua New Guinea to be the point of investment.
Bird said during the 2019 PNG SME StartUp Convention in Port Moresby last week that this was part of the vision of the Greater Sepik economic zone with a detailed plan to be release mid next year.
“We have already got the preliminary plans because the government has agreed to pay for the plan, not for Sepik, but for PNG,” Bird said.
“By June next year, we will bring this plan together.
“Our Prime Minister is now taking an interest in doing this greater Sepik idea, he has asked us to go ahead and develop an agricultural blueprint.
“We have already engaged some of the smartest minds in PNG to start work on this. The East Sepik provincial government is contributing money for the scoping work.”
Bird said vanilla and oil palm had generated millions for the province already.
“In the preliminary work that we have done, we know that Angoram has bedrock you can build skyscrapers on bedrock, like in Port Moresby.
“The river where Angoram is over 40 metres deep where you can put a wharf that is deeper than Port Moresby harbour.
“We are currently, helping landowners to register their land for ILGs (incorporated landowner groups) and that they can partner with businesses that want to get production out of the land.”
