EAST Sepik Governor Allan Bird wants Police Minister Bryan Kramer to explain why there is not enough funding for provinces.
He asked for an explanation for the K380million allocated to police in the national budget.
“Under that K380mil, K7mil is for East Sepik. Can the police minister explain what that K7mil is for?
“Because since the time I was voted in as governor, East Sepik’s provincial police commander has been changed three times.
“I’ve spoken to all three of them who say they don’t have the funding, so the provincial government has taken up the responsibility.
“Last year, we gave them K300,000 and bought them three vehicles.
“This year we are buying nine vehicles for police and we are also giving them K700,000.
“We are building them houses in Maprik, and we are planning to build houses in Wewak and Angoram because we want to demonstrate to them that the people of East Sepik wants good policing.
“But we have to understand where the K300mil for police is going to.”
Bird also called on Kramer to tell Parliament what policies he had, and what his police strategies were.
