Bishop Leo Secondary beat Brandi 24-18 in U18 schools league comp in Wewak

BISHOP Leo Secondary School beat Brandi Secondary School 24-18 in a competitive Under-18 schools rugby league clash in Wewak on Saturday.
Bishop winger Jonah Ako scored the first try of the game with a runaway effort in the 10th minute for a 4-0 lead.
Brandi managed a response in the 17th minute and converted their try to take a 6-4 lead.
Both sides tested the others defences especially around the ruck and despite a high error count managed to entertain the crowd with their efforts.
Bishop and Brandi each added another try to their tally and Brandi took a 12-10 lead at halftime.
The second half saw both schools lift their offence and while not points were scored in the opening period, things heated up in the final quarter when Brandi earned a crucial penalty to go 14-10 ahead.
Bishop’s Nalon Kaisum broke the line and was on his way before being hauled in by the Brandi cover before handing off to his support for a try.
Bishop took their next opportunity when five-eighth Martex Passie put fullback Immanuel Anis, into a hole with the No.1 beating his opposite to ground the ball under the to get his side out to a 20-14 lead.
Brandi did not throw in the towel getting into the Bishop red zone before unleashing their backline that saw them cross for an unconverted try to trail 20-18.
Bishop Leo finished strongly with a try to reserve Lee Saun in the 78th minute to extend their lead to 24-18.
