Bismarck sides make Lae softball grand final spots

THE Lae Softball Association (LSA) finals are on Saturday with two Bismarck A and B grade teams making the deciders.
Association president Lindsay Pulu said Bismarck winning their playoff fixtures on May 4.
“Bismarck A grade beat Admiralty Marlins 7-2 to book the first final spot, while the Bismarck B grade beat Manolos 4-0 to make their final,” Pulu said. In the other men’s B grade semifinal Tigers beat Jets 4-3.
The Tigers faced Manolos for the right to play Bismarck in the B grade final.
The men’s A grade semifinal between Tigers and Manolos was called off in the fourth inning due to fading light with Tigers leading 2-0.
The match was rescheduled for Saturday. LSA clubs: Bismarck, Admiralty Marlins, Manolos, Tigers, Jets, Moro and Brown Eagles.
Players who have shown over the season are Bismarck’s pitcher catcher combination of Meli Taragau and Chris Karl, Tigers pitcher Peter Simon, Admiralty Marlins Keleu clan in Henry, Paul and brother Graham, and Manolos’ pitcher Steven Bunbun. Pulu said LSA did not have a women’s competition this season because of a lack of interest.
“Clubs have been focusing on their men’s teams and the women have missed out,” he said.
He said the lack of sponsorship was another factor in the association being unable runa women’s competition.
