FULLBACK Junior Hoki bagged a hat-trick to help Moresby South Blacks beat Port Moresby Suburban Ducks 26-12 in round 11 of Southern Super League National Gaming Control Board Cup at Moresby South Stadium yesterday.
Hoki second-half treble came off the back of speed and height in a man-of-the-match performance.
Blacks centre Joshua Winnie grabbed a double and prop Jacob Sarea crossed over for a try.
Blacks opened the scoring via an unconverted try by Winnie but a penalty goal ensured Ducks went into the break trailing 2-4.
Blacks came back strongly after the break as Hoki brushed off some poor defending to cross over for an unconverted try.
Then Sarea crashed over under the uprights to extend Blacks’ lead to 14-2.
Winnie completed his double when he found his way through on the left edge to push Blacks out to an 18-2 lead.
In the 66th minute, Ducks centre James Gene crossed over for an unconverted try to trail 6-18.
This was followed by Jeff Joe’s try seven minutes later and converted by Gene to trail 12-18.
It was Blacks’ turn and a backline move coordinated by halves Andy Tand, Joseph Komali and centre Terence Wemin resulted in Hoki scoring his second try for a 22-12 lead.
Seconds from fulltime, Hoki sealed the win with his third try.
