BLUE Kumuls broke the hearts of Guria FC in the Goroka Soccer Association women’s grand final at the National Sports Institute on Sunday, winning 3-2 in a penalty shoot-out.
Guria FC captain Tracy Harokao’ve got her side on the board in the fifth minute which boosted their confidence.
Guria FC dominated possession, however, Blue Kumuls’ Audrey Danny equalised before half-time.
Both sides came out strong in the second half but it was Blue Kumuls’ Flora Koko who gave her side a 2-1 lead.
Determined to fight back, Guria FC’s Dorothy Kuno managed to secure the equaliser.
With the scores locked at 2-2 at the end of extra time, both sides went into the penalty shoot-out eager to seal the title.
But it was the Blue Kumuls who held their nerve to seal the win.
Blue Kumuls skipper Melvina Bonki gave credit to her players for their efforts throughout the match.
“It was a very strong game and we are pleased with our win,” Bonki said.
“We tried to score during extra time but they were good in defence.
“We eventually got the win in the penalty shoot-out.”
