THE Cocoa Board of PNG has welcomed the opening of the Gold Dust cocoa wet bean buying point at Karavialiu in the Central Gazelle local level government of East New Britain.
Assistant economics manager Claire Parik said it was milestone.
It is a partnership between the Cocoa Board of PNG, PNG Agriculture Company, Gold Dust buying point and farmers in the area.
Parik said the board was established in all cocoa growing provinces and was working under the cocoa nursery project in partnership with 20 districts.
The board is the agency of government serving cocoa farmers around the country.
“Our focus is looking at cocoa quality, running cocoa quality training, post-harvest training, extension and research,” Parik said.
“CBPNG is also focusing on cocoa farmer groups or cluster groups.”
