The University of Technology academic board will meet to consider the possibility of continuing the  academic year, chancellor Sir Nagora Bogan said.
He said alternative catering facilities would also be considered after the mess was burnt down last weekend as violence swept the Lae campus.
“The council and management regret the trauma, stress and untold emotional and psychological anguish caused by these traumatic and unprecedented events,” Sir Nagora said.
“We ask for your forgiveness, understanding and tolerance as we mobilise to restore peace, harmony and continue reconciliation, healing and reconstruction.
“We are working closely with the catering contractor to establish alternative mess facilities and for the academic board to meet and consider the viability and technicality of continuing the 2016 academic year.”
Sir Nagora said the management of Unitech had set up a temporary information centre operating from 8am to 6pm to provide updates to parents and stakeholders. Contacts are 473 4215 or  473 4888, Digicel 72637278 and bmobile on 75541677.
