Hela Wigmen pair can take Hunters forward: Veteran

By ROBINSON LEKA
INTRUST Super Cup premiership winner Ase Boas has backed the SP Hunters’ next group of playmakers to take the club forward as the 107-game veteran heads towards the end of his career.
The 31-year-old, who has so far scored 32 tries in six seasons with the Hunters, said the inclusion of Hela Wigmen halves Judah Rimbu and Solomon Pokari into the train-on squad was timely.
“For the older players, we’ll be retiring soon,” the former Rabaul Guria said.
“So Rimbu and Pokari need to make the most of our experience while we’re still playing.
“We’ll share with them as much knowledge as we can and they’ll take it from there.
“The ISC is a step up from the Digicel Cup, so they’ll have to work harder at improving themselves as halves.
“But we’ll take it one step at a time.
“To get there, we’ll have to be consistent in getting the little things right.
“When you’re playing in the ISC, it’s the basics that count. Don’t just be content with what you have been doing in the Digicel Cup because there’s more work to be done when you come up to this level.
“This is what we’ve been encouraging them in camp and they’re doing fine.
“They’re the future of this club.
“I know it’s still early days but we’ve been really impressed with how they’ve carried themselves over the past two weeks.”
Meanwhile, Boas said the return of Papua New Guinea international and former Barrow Raider Wartovo Puara Jr would boost their attack from dummy half.
