Boas brothers guide Rovers to big victory

Sports

WITH the Boas brothers directing play from the halves, the Featherstone Rovers displayed their top-five credentials with an emphatic 46-16 victory over Yorkshire rivals Halifax at a foggy LD Nutrition Stadium on Sunday.
The result moves coach Ryan Carr’s side onto four points from their opening four games.
There is still plenty of rugby to be played, however, in — if the first four rounds are anything to go by — what promises to be a gruelling and highly-competitive Championship campaign.
The result rounded off a special day for captain James Lockwood, who made his 150th appearance for the club after over seven years of service.
Halifax came into the contest having won two of their first three games, but failed to test the Rovers defence for any sustained period.
The hosts scored eight tries in total including braces to Harry Newman and Luke Briscoe.
Five-eighth Ase Boas set up Newman’s second four-pointer.
Boas intercepted an offload from Steve Tyrer deep in his own half before finding Newman on his inside.
