Boas encourages rugby players to save money

FORMER Papua New Guinea Hunters skipper Ase Boas, pictured, is urging rugby league players to get into the culture of saving.
Nasfund brand ambassador Boas, who joins the Featherstone Rovers in England for the 2019 season, said: “Planning or saving for the long term is very difficult for most of us Papua New Guineans but planning to save for long term is achievable.
“The question of what would life be after rugby was always something that hit me every time I went home at the end of the season.
“Every time I put on the Nasfund uniform to attend an event or talk to people, I speak of my own experience about the importance of saving for the long-term.
“Whatever I have learnt at Nasfund is a lifetime opportunity to make (good) financial decisions today for the future.
“So as I was playing, I was thinking that when I retire, I do not want to be like the past players like walking on the streets because they do not know where or how to save,” he said. “But I thank Nasfund for showing me how to save money.
“During my engagement with Nasfund in the voluntary contributions awareness, we managed to register 1469 new members to a value of K65,000-plus within five months.
Boas said the rugby league career would not last a life time therefor it was important to save up.
“When your career is over, you will return to your normal life,” Boas said.
“ You can’t work your whole life.
You will have to retire, go back home and do something.”
